My oldest son Logan has a typical toddler temperament. If I ask him to do something, he will respond in one of the following ways.
1. Pretend to have lost his hearing and ignore whatever I have just asked of him.
2. Pretend to have partial hearing loss the first two times I ask him, and then miraculously hear me the third time.
3. Do what I ask of him immediately (this is rare :)
4. Decide that whatever I have asked of him is outlandish, and demonstrate this by throwing a large fit.
My dog has apparently decided to take behavioral lessons from my son. This is, presumably, because she sees him as another animal, which on many days, is not too far from the truth. For example, when I take her outside to do her business, she reacts in one of the following ways.
1. Pretends to have lost her hearing and ignores my requests to "go pee" or "go poop".
2. Pretends to have partial hearing loss until my voice reaches a low growl, and then she miraculously does her business.
3. Goes to do her business right away (this is rare!)
Bedtime has also become a fun routine. It usually goes like this:
Me: I get into bed and make myself comfortable.
Dog: Gets up on the bed and starts playing around.
Me: Get off the bed.
Dog: Moves two inches down the bed and lays down.
Me: Get off the bed!
Dog: Moves down to the bottom of the bed and lays down.
Me: Get. OFF. the. bed!!!
Dog: Slinks off the bed and lays on her pet bed, all the while grumbling under her breath (I kid you not).
I can't wait to see how she behaves when the kids are teenagers. Do dogs do the silent treatment?
